Looking to launch your career in the equipment industry? Johnson Tractor is seeking a Small Engine & Set-Up Technician to join our service team. This entry-level position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with their hands and wants to build a career as a technician. You'll primarily focus on assembling, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing lawn and garden equipment, UTVs, and other small engine products while supporting equipment set-up and helping maintain our dealership. As your skills grow, you'll have opportunities to work on skid steers, compact tractors, and larger agricultural and construction equipment alongside our experienced technicians.

What You’ll Do:​​

• Assemble, inspect, and perform pre-delivery set-up on new lawn and garden equipment, UTVs, compact tractors, and attachments

• Perform routine maintenance and basic repairs on small engine equipment, including oil changes, lubrication, blade installation, belt replacement, and other preventative maintenance

• Diagnose and complete basic small engine repairs under the guidance of experienced technicians

• Wash, clean, and detail equipment to dealership standards for delivery and display

• Assist with touch-up paint, waxing, and final quality inspections to ensure equipment is customer-ready

• Support the service department with shop organization, equipment movement, and other technician assistance as needed

• Maintain dealership grounds and facilities, including mowing, snow removal, and general housekeeping

• Accurately document completed work and follow all dealership safety procedures

What We’re Looking For:​

• High school diploma or equivalent; must be at least 18 years old

• Mechanical aptitude and an interest in equipment repair and maintenance

• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn new skills

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions

• Previous experience with small engines, automotive, powersports, agriculture, landscaping, or equipment maintenance is helpful but not required

• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to work well as part of a team

Position Details:

• Job Type: Full-time, Hourly

• Location: Harvard, IL

• Pay Range: Equivalent to $40,000–$70,000 annually, based on a full-time schedule and paid hourly. (Starting pay is determined by experience, certifications, mechanical skill level, and qualifications. Includes opportunities for earnings through overtime during peak seasons.)
